Local SEO

Making your website clear to search engines for the places you work

Local SEO is the website side of being found by nearby customers. It means your website explains what you do and where you do it, in a way people and search engines can both understand, and that your business details match everywhere they appear.

  • Service and area pages with genuine, useful content
  • Technical foundations checked and put right
  • Consistent business details across the web

Is your website hard to find locally?

These are common reasons a local business website struggles to show up for the searches that matter to it.

  • One page tries to say everythingAll your services and areas are crammed onto the homepage, so no page clearly answers a specific search.
  • Areas are not mentionedThe website never says which towns or areas you cover, so neither customers nor search engines can tell.
  • Copy-and-paste area pagesDozens of near-identical pages with only the town name changed, which rarely help and can do harm.
  • Details do not matchYour name, address or phone number differ between your website, your Google Business Profile and directories.
  • Technical problemsPages blocked from search engines, missing titles, slow pages on phones or broken links.

What local SEO work involves

We start with a look at your website and how your business appears online, then recommend the work that is most worth doing.

Service pages

A clear page for each main service, explaining what it involves, who it is for and how to get in touch.

Area pages with real content

Pages for the areas you genuinely work in regularly, each with something useful and specific to say. No town-name swapping.

Technical foundations

Page titles, descriptions, headings, sitemaps, mobile layout and speed, and making sure search engines are allowed to read your pages.

Internal linking

Sensible links between your services, areas and contact pages, so visitors and search engines can find their way around.

Structured data, where truthful

Markup that describes your business and services to search engines, using only information that is visible and accurate on your website.

Consistent business details

Checking your name, address and phone number match across your website, your profile and the main directories and listings.

Local listings and directories

Your business probably appears in more places than you realise: directories, trade bodies, map apps and review sites. When those listings show an old phone number or a previous address, customers get confused and search engines get mixed signals.

We can find the main listings, check them against your current details and help you correct them. Some sites let businesses edit their own listing, others need a request to the site owner, so not every correction is instant or within our control.

How assessment and quoting work

You always know what we recommend, and what it will cost, before any work starts.

  1. Tell us about your business

Your website, your services and the areas you want more work from.

  2. We review

We look at your website and your wider online presence, and tell you what we find in plain English.

  3. You agree the plan and cost

We recommend the work most likely to help, with a clear price. Nothing starts until you agree.

  4. We do the work

We make the agreed changes and explain what was done and why.

Common questions

How is local SEO different from a Google Business Profile?

Your Google Business Profile is the listing Google shows on Search and Maps, which you manage through Google. Local SEO is about your own website and how your business details appear across the web. They support each other, and many businesses benefit from both.

Can you guarantee first place on Google?

No. Nobody controls how Google ranks websites, and anyone who guarantees rankings should be treated with caution. We can make your website clearer, more useful and technically sound, which gives it the best chance.

Which search terms should I target?

We start with the words your customers actually use for your services and the areas you cover. We do not invent search volumes or promise traffic figures. Where search data is useful, we explain where it comes from and what it can and cannot tell you.

How many area pages should I have?

Only as many as you can make genuinely useful. A few well-written pages about areas you really work in are better than a long list of near-identical ones.

Do I need a new website for local SEO?

Not necessarily. Many improvements can be made to an existing website. If your current website makes that difficult, we will say so, and our pay-monthly websites include technical SEO foundations as standard.

How long before I see a difference?

It varies, and depends on your website, your area and the competition. We will not give you a timescale we cannot stand behind. We will explain what we have changed so you can see the work done.
